Island Time 2, July 22-25: Film Picks, Flower Workshop, Pirate Days
July 22, 2019
This week is packed with activities and events, and we’ve picked a few of our favorites for you. Find everything that’s going on, day and night, in the Complete Martha’s Vineyard Calendar, and watch for our IslandTime newsletter coming Thursday with best bets for the weekend.
Enjoy a tour of the flower garden, flower arranging with Emily Coulter and a Grey Barn cheese tasting. Using flowers grown at The Grey Barn, Ms. Coulter will give a working demonstration that artfully guides you through her process. Bring your camera to take photos of your final arrangement, then take it home with you. Advance registration is required.
Presented by the Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival, the movie will be followed by a Q&A and discussion with its directors and two teenage survivors of the mass school shooting in Parkland, Florida on Feb. 14, 2018, Brooke Harrison and David Hogg.
The museum’s Discovery Days drop-off program for ages 5-12 is all about pirates and privateers this week. Pirate attire is encouraged and a spyglass will be provided to identify the birds and ships of Martha’s Vineyard. Laura Noonan of the museum’s Oral History department will take kids on a deep dive into the Island‘s pirate history. Registration is required for one, two or all three days.
Long before Sex and the City or Girls, Claudia Weill’s Girlfriends proved that women can tell their own stories—and those stories aren’t always about men. Ms. Weill, joined by ethicist Carol Gilligan and poet Honor Moore, will speak and take questions following the film.
From Frankie Valli to Lady Gaga, pop singers of the past 60 years perform their No. 1 hits—and many of your favorite songs—as twin impressionists Anthony and Eddie Edwards morph into the superstars.
