July 9: Summer Class in Session -The Wish List

July 9, 2018

Summer is all about having fun, gaining new skills, and trying things we’ve never done before. That’s why this week we’ve loaded up our plate with everything from cooking to painting, but we’re still staying active with some fun new dance moves. Don’t miss out on these five events happening on the Island. What will you try this week?

1  All About Fish. Monday, July 9, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Kitchen Porch.
One of the best things about being on an Island is access to the freshest fish from the Atlantic – but where do you start? We’re diving into this Kitchen Porch Catering culinary experience to truly learn all about fish – from farming practices to preparing a main dish to making your own sashimi (and everything in between!).

2  Salsa Suelta Cuban Dance Class. Tuesday, July 10, 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., Chilmark Community Center.
Take a break from the traditional partner salsa dancing and give Salsa Suelta Cubana (dancing in a group) a try. Christina Montoya brings the dance form inspired by many Cuban dance traditions, including Afro-Cuban Rumba to Reggaeton, straight from Havana (ooh, na na).

3 MVYradio Summer Porch Concert Series.
Tuesday, July 10, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Harbor View Hotel.
Father-daughter duo Arlen and Lexie Roth take the stage on the Harbor View porch this evening. Grab a cocktail from Henry’s, take a seat in one of those classic teal rocking chairs, and enjoy acoustic tunes while watching the boats come in and out of the harbor.

4  Sip & Paint. Wednesday, July 11, 4 p.m. to 7 a.m., Island House Bar & Grill.
Need some new art for your living room wall? Tonight we’re heading down to Island House for a glass of wine and a paintbrush to create our own masterpiece for the space above the couch. A 16×20 canvas and all the necessary supplies (including the wine!) will be provided.

Oyster & Aquaculture Tours.
Thursday, July 12, 5:45 p.m., Pirate Adventures Martha’s Vineyard
Set sail aboard the Pirate Adventures ship to learn about the flourishing shellfish industry. Rick Karney of the Martha’s Vineyard Shellfish Group leads a discussion about aquaculture before heading off to tour Cottage City Oyster farm and taste some oysters plucked right out of the water.
