The Week Ahead: Friday, October 27 through Thursday, November 2, 2017

October 27, 2017

Martha’s Vineyard loves Halloween! Evidence is all around us from thrift shop racks of crazy dress up gear to the scarecrows lining the Island’s main streets. Celebrating this rite of autumn is undertaken on the Island with verve and enthusiasm for all facets of October’s end and November’s beginning.  Kids of course love the candy, dress up and silly/spooky aspects, the 21 plus crowd loves the parties and costume prizes, and just about everyone else loves the magical memories of childhood evoked by dressed up trick or treaters begging candy from door to door. All of course have a favorite Halloween story:  the neighbor who measured out candy corn with a shot glass, the sticky mess of caramel corn congealing at the bottom of one’s treat sack, the horrible embarrassment of having to wear snow pants under one’s princess costume because temperatures had dipped below freezing. Candy is dispensed wrapped these days and global warming has made the snow pants scenario all but archaic.  But the excitement and fun of traipsing through the dark town as winds moan and whistle though the treetops remains.  Halloween hi-jinks are spread throughout the week; to view them all click here>

Happy Halloween and enjoy the Week Ahead!
