Island Time, March 15-17: In the Pink
March 14, 2019
On a recent visit to The Grey Barn and Farm in Chilmark we met a sheep named Cinna-bun, a cow named Donuts, and a dog named Ruby. We left with a piece of cheese called Bluebird. We stopped at 7aFoods for a Liz Lemon sandwich.
Later in the week, we drove down Lambert’s Cove Road to Blackwater Farm to pick up some fresh eggs (and to say hi to the horses, sort of). Back on State Road, we were happy to see that Little House Café had just reopened, so we picked up some crispy fish tacos.
Yesterday, the brand new Martha’s Vineyard Museum — and it’s café — opened up in Vineyard Haven.
Tomorrow it’s Daffodil Time. Next week is the first official day of spring. Things are looking up. Life is good.
Friday, March 15 | Never Idle
Start the weekend out in a good mood by stopping by the Edgartown library. Edgartown police chief Bruce McNamee will be doing a bagpipe demonstration from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Or visit the Oak Bluffs library, where Library Mini-Golf is back — for teens at 4 p.m. and adults at 6 p.m.
Keep on smiling tonight at the Comedy Lounge with a night of Gaelic vs. Garlic comedy. Corned beef vs. capicola? Guiness vs. Chianti? Irish and Italian comedians battle it out in this hysterical night of standup and audience interactive routines, featuring New York comedians Tom Briscoe and Mark Riccadonna. Acoustic rocker Johnny Mac provides the Irish sing-a-longs and the rock ‘n roll.
The Wicked Good Musical Revue returns to the Playhouse at 7 p.m. tonight. And Pathways is hosting a celebration of gardens, landscaping and the environment with a multi-arts line-up that includes gardeners, farmers, and visual artists (7 p.m.).
Wonder Park and Captain Marvel are showing tonight at the Edgartown Cinema at 6:45. Apollo 11 is at the Film Center, showing at 7:30 p.m.
March 16 | Go Green
Take advantage of the Farm Institute’s Seed Starting Workshop, happening today at 10 a.m., to get some of your garden veggies and flowers going.
Tonight you can eat your fill of corned beef and cabbage at the St. Patrick’s Day dinner at the Federated Church (5:30 p.m.). Then head over to the P.A. Club for Spring Fling, featuring Jellybone Rivers and the Maniacs of the Heart, along with the Space Invaders. There will be a great silent auction, too — all to benefit the MV Public Charter School (6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.).
There’s also a Chilmark Potluck Jam tonight, 6:30 p.m. at the Chilmark Community Center.
March 17 | Bells of Ireland
The 8th annual St. Patrick’s Day parade starts in Edgartown on Dock Street this morning at 11 a.m.
This afternoon we’re definitely going to be at the West Tisbury library for this event: Recycling Demystified on the Vineyard (3:30 p.m.). A panel of experts will answer our questions about what to do with all of our recycling on the Island.
And tonight we’ll be with our Irish friends at the MV Film Center for a celebration of St. Patrick & Irish Culture. Molly Conole will be singing, traditional Irish soda bread and scones will be served, and a glass of Bailey’s Cream will be yours to sip in the lobby prior to the evening entertainment, which includes a film showcasing Irish filmmaking (6:30 p.m.).
