And they’re off! The Martha’s Vineyard Marathon, a Boston qualifier, begins this Saturday morning, May 20, at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School at 8:30 a.m. A half-marathon and a two-person half-marathon relay will be run at the same time. To catch a glimpse of the winners, head to Waban Park in Oak Bluffs for the finishes. Later on Saturday, the one-night team-based Fly Rod Striped Bass Catch and Release Tournament begins at 7 p.m. and ends at midnight. And hey, Cape Poge Discovery Tours are back. If you’re up for an oversand adventure, pre-registered tour participants will be picked up this Saturday morning at 9:30 am. on the Chappy side of the Chappy ferry.

You’ll want to dance with somebody at the Strand Theatre in Oak Bluffs on Friday, May 19. Singer Nicole Henry will be belting out the hits during I Wanna Dance With Somebody: The Songs of Whitney Houston starting at 7 p.m. This event is a fundraiser for the Oak Bluffs Association.
A summertime tradition starts early this year: Grace Church in Vineyard Haven begins serving up its famous lobster roll dinners on Friday, May 19! Order ahead for lobster rolls, chips, pie and beverages. Friday pick-up times are available between 3:30 and 6:30 p.m.
Get to know your neighbors better at the Second Annual Brazilian Culture Night. Students from the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School are again spearheading this community event, which will be held at the school’s cafeteria and patio from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 18.
Learn to capture the springtime beauty you’re seeing around you. Starting Saturday, May 20, Slough Farm in Edgartown offers a two-day long workshop From the Field to the Studio: A Botanical Art Workshop with Doreen Kassel. Botanical sketching, picturemaking, and a lunch prepared by chef Charlie Grandquist are all on the menu from 1 to 4 p.m. each day.
Head to the Unitarian Universalist Society in Vineyard Haven on Saturday, May 20 for A Celebration of Music and Community. Delanie Pickering and Jeremy Berlin will be making music from 3 to 5 p.m. The cost is $20 at the door.
