Follow the Light

Follow the Light

April 6, 2023
With pinkletinks chirping loudly at Mill Pond and red-breasted robins foraging in front lawns, it feels like spring has finally begun in earnest on the Vineyard. The longer days coinciding with Passover and Easter this weekend bring a much needed burst of light and energy. Whether you’re attending tonight’s Community Seder at the Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center, the Easter Sunday service and egg hunt at the Ag Hall on Sunday morning, or one of a dozen other Easter services and events, you’ll find a community gathering or celebration to suit your needs.
There’s plenty more happening too, for kids and adults alike. Read on for our five picks and don’t forget to check The Complete Martha’s Vineyard Calendar for a regularly updated list of all Island activities.
On Friday, April 7 at 7 p.m., join PathwaysArts for an evening program on plant awareness titled Imagined Gardens and Landscapes. Speakers include regenerative gardener Roxanne Kapitan, farmer and forager Rebecca Gilbert and seed saver and farm manager Rebecca Saunders. The event will be held at Pathways’ Chilmark Tavern venue.
The Black Eyed Susans re-take the stage at The Ritz Cafe on Friday, April 7. Their lively rock and blues show starts at 10 p.m.
Catch the brass ring at the Flying Horses carousel, which re-opens for the season on Saturday, April 8 at 11 a.m., after a winter of refurbishment.
The Easter Bunny will hop on by for a visit the following day from 12 to 2 p.m. The carousel’s regular business hours are 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekends up to Memorial Day.
The annual Kids Trout Tournament gets underway at first light on Saturday, April 8 at Duarte’s Pond. Hot dogs, doughnuts and lots or prizes await in addition to the hundreds of trout stocked in the pond by the MV Rod & Gun Club.
Save some energy for a special Saturday night music event: Gig for the Gigs at the Portuguese-American Club supports the rowing club at Sail MV. Enjoy live music played by Gordon Healy, Delanie Pickering, Kevin Medeiros and others, and bid on a silent auction and raffle. The music starts at 7 p.m.
