Counting Up, Counting Down

Counting Up, Counting Down

December 29, 2022
The snow was lovely, the solstice has passed. The days are both longer and for now a bit warmer. Yet time seems suspended while we stretch out the holiday celebration – our only goal this week. Resolutions and diets will have to wait until Monday. Tonight we will be stargazing at twilight, looking for Venus and the crescent moon. Saturday we may treat ourselves to New Year’s Eve dinner at Bettini or The Sweet Life or State Road Restaurant. Afterwards? Live music at The Ritz or the P.A. Club (see details below). Sunday we may lace up our skates and take advantage of the public session at the ice rink.

On Saturday, Dec. 31, the Harbor View Hotel offers the opportunity to experience the holiday magic of Edgartown during a horse-drawn carriage ride. Each carriage can seat up to six people. The annual Martha’s Vineyard Christmas Bird Count is worth getting up early for on New Year’s Day! Birdwatching teams at islandwide locations will report on the species they see throughout the day.
Email [email protected] for information and to join a team. The count takes place from approximately 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
