Enjoy the Show

Enjoy the Show

September 29, 2022

There is nothing like nature showing off: wild waves, crazy cloud formations, yellow goldenrod and purple aster swaying in a roadside field. From the treetops a cacophonous burst of birds taking off in unison, on the pond a pair of swans and three cygnets gliding towards sunset. The show is free, the hours are friendly (open all day and night) and the location is the best, bar none: The Island. We hope you enjoy the show this weekend, and that you take advantage of a few other productions with limited engagements — including a new staging of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella. For more on that and other events, keep reading, and be sure to visit The Complete Martha’s Vineyard Calendar for all the events coming up soon.

Island Theatre Workshop has returned to live production! Performances of the musical theater classic Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29 through Sunday, Oct. 2 at the Performing Arts Center in Oak Bluffs. There’s also a matinee performance on Sunday at 2 p.m., after which audiences can meet the cast.
On Thursday, Sept. 29, PathwaysARTS and the MV Public Charter School will present a performance of Senegalese music and dance featuring master percussionist Aba Diop and dancer Bakary Fall. The setting is as unique as the cultural traditions: it takes place at the Tisbury Waterworks starting at 5 p.m.
The Martha’s Vineyard Poets’ Collective celebrates its 12th year with a reading at the Martha’s Vineyard Museum in Vineyard Haven on Friday, Sept. 30, facilitated by MV poet laureate Jill Jupen. Members will read from works written in a variety of forms. The event will be held in the Rose Styron Garden at 5:30 p.m.
Head to the Island Grown Farm in Oak Bluffs on Saturday, Oct. 1 to help Island Grown Initiative plant its first native hedgerow. This drop-in volunteer event takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring a shovel and gloves if you have them available.
Support the Island’s oldest lighthouse by running the Gay Head 10K Community Road Race on Sunday, Oct. 2. This annual event raises funds to maintain the historic lighthouse and offers runners a path down State Road and along Moshup Trail. Registration recommended in advance of the 10:30 a.m. start time.
