Island Time, Dec. 10-16: Feeling Festive

December 10, 2020

This weekend it’s all about the lights and the trees. Hanukkah starts tonight. (Need latkes?) Christmas trees are on sale as long as they last at the American Legion Post in Tisbury and selling out fast at Island nurseries (get yours soon!). The Edgartown Lighthouse will be littomorrow night at 5:30 p.m. and Christmas in Edgartown is a go. Holiday spirit is holding strong, so light a candle, hang a string of twinkling lights, or throw up a wreath. We’ll be right there with you. Details below and lots more on the Complete Martha’s Vineyard Calendar.

The West Tisbury Congregational Church’s festive annual tradition of selling wreaths, centerpieces, and other beautiful handmade decorations is happening on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with safety precautions in place. This year’s Christmas Faire theme is a celebration of land and sea.
In addition to the Teddies Around Town scavenger hunt, the virtual Teddy Bear Trot, and the Holiday Dog Show, Christmas in Edgartown also includes visits to the Cape Pogue Lighthouse this Saturday and Sunday.
Sit in on an online conversation with poet Jorie Graham and author Bret Anthony Johnston from 6:30 p.m to 7:30 p.m. tonight. Noepe at Featherstone sponsors the Writers in Conversation Series on Thursday nights.
SaltMV is having a holiday pop-up in Menemsha at Pandora’s Box on Basin Road now through Tuesday. New holiday gift items include bandanas, belt buckles, key chains, letterpress greeting cards, and 2021 letterpress calendars. Open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and by appointment.
On Saturday from 10 a.m to 4 p.m, drop off a toy for the Red Stocking Fund with the Edgartown police, who will be collecting in the parking lot at the bottom of Main street, outside of the Edgartown Yacht Club. If you can’t make it on Saturday, drop off at the police station during the week.
