Island Time, April 2-9: All Week Long

Island Time, April 2-9: All Week Long

April 2, 2020

Whether you’re sheltering at home on Martha’s Vineyard or visiting the Island virtually, there are more things to do online popping up every day. So we’re opening up Island Time to all seven days of the week, giving you something different to look forward to every day. You can still find everything that’s happening in the Complete Martha’s Vineyard Calendar—here’s a sampling:

Thursday, April 2 | Beachy Clean

Instead of rallying crowds to clean Island beaches on Earth Day (April 22), the Vineyard Conservation Society is encouraging everyone to pick up some trash on their beach walks, trail hikes, and town strolls this month. Send VCS your photos and observations, and the society will reward you with some swag while supplies last.

Friday, April 3 | Get cooking

Award-winning Island caterer and chef Jan Buhrman is teaching a Virtual Cooking Class from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Saturday, April 4 | With both hands

Chances are, your hands have never been cleaner. Now, why not teach them to talk with sign language lessons on MVTV?

Sunday, April 5 | Museum quality

The Martha’s Vineyard Museum has digitized several exhibitions, including a look at the Island in World War II, so you can experience them online.

Monday, April 6 | Ask an ecologist

Coastal ecologist Matt Pelikan answers questions about the Island’s flora and fauna in a virtual Q&A hosted by the Trustees, starting at 10 a.m.

Tuesday, April 7 | A little help

Technology can be a great advantage at times like these, but it can also be a royal pain. Get help from the West Tisbury Library’s IT/reference librarian Rachel Rooney, who is available by phone, text, and email weekdays from noon to 1 p.m. to assist with your tech troubles.

Wednesday, April 8 | Grab a mat

We’re all called upon to be more flexible these days, and Martha’s Vineyard yogis are rising to the challenge with no fewer than five virtual classes  today—at noon, 4 p.m.7 p.m., 7 p.m.,and 8:15 p.m.
