February on Martha’s Vineyard used to be, well, dull. Not anymore! This month, the Island is bustling with activity — nature hikes, pop-up dining, live music, fast-moving sports and much more. We’ve picked a few upcoming events to recommend for you, and remember you can find everything that’s happening in the Complete Martha’s Vineyard Calendar.

Friday, Feb. 7 | Owl prowl

At the Island Alpaca Open House, you can visit with 40 adult and baby alpacas on their Oak Bluffs farm from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today through Sunday.

Pick up some fresh farm veggies at below-retail prices when the Winter Mobile Market visits Martha’s Vineyard Hospital in OB from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

This month’s Big Moon Owl Prowl starts at 5 p.m. at Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary in Edgartown.

Angler, author and artist Janet Messineo opens her Wildlife Art Show at the Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse in Vineyard Haven with a reception from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

At Pathways in Chilmark, musicians Tristan Israel, Nancy Jephcote and Paul Thurlow perform songs from Tristan’s new CD, and singer-songwriter Jim Orr plays new material, starting at 7 p.m.

Edgartown Cinemas is showing Birds of Prey at 4 p.m. and 6:45 p.m.


Saturday, Feb. 8 | Cinnamon buns

It’s Cinnamon Bun Saturday at the Grey Barn and Farm in Chilmark, where you can enjoy hot-from-the-oven cinnamon buns with Chilmark Coffee from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Bring a mug.

Celebrate Black History Month at the Oak Bluffs Public Library from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a potluck brunch and presentations, beginning at 10 a.m., focusing on the abolition movement.

The 21st annual Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School Science & Engineering Fair starts at 10 a.m. with exhibitions and demonstrations until noon, when awards are presented.

Bring your cash to the Fabulous Indoor Sidewalk Sale, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and tomorrow at Edgartown School, where Island retailers will be sacrificing their goods at blowout prices.

The Moby-Dick Book Club holds its second meeting at the Carnegie in Edgartown from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Trinity Worship Center in Oak Bluffs serves its weekly Community Supper starting at 5:30 p.m.

At Edgartown Cinemas, Bad Boys for Life plays at 6:45 p.m.


Sunday, Feb. 9 | Oscar night

The Vineyard Conservation Society leads a guided walk of the recently-designated ancient ways in Lambert’s Cove, Shubael Weeks road and Red Coat Hill road, and surrounding conservation areas from 10 a.m. to noon.

A one-hour Family Skate, complete with hot chocolate, begins at noon at the Martha’s Vineyard Ice Arena in Oak Bluffs.

Offshore Ale Company in Oak Bluffs holds a Beer & Cheese Pairing from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Musicians Eric Johnson and Jeremy Berlin perform in the West Tisbury library’s Second Sunday Jazz Concert at 3:30 p.m.

La Soffitta in Vineyard Haven hosts its popular Opera Night, with live singers and piano accompaniment, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

At the film center, it’s the 2020 Oscars Viewing Party, starting at 6:30 p.m. with refreshments and live music in the lobby and continuing inside the theatre with the awards ceremony telecast, interspersed with prizes for the audience.

Brothers Griffin and Sean McMahon bring their Holy Rock & Roll Revival to the Ritz in Oak Bluffs starting at 7:30 p.m.
