Here comes another Martha’s Vineyard weekend full of interesting, entertaining, thought-provoking and just plain fun things to do on the Island: community meals, book talks, classes and lots of music. Here are a few suggestions for the next few days, and you can find everything that’s happening all week long by visiting the Complete Martha’s Vineyard Calendar.

Friday, Jan. 24 | Wicked good music

Your Guide to the Side … Hustle is a talk by a pet-sitting entrepreneur on launching your own service business on the side, at the Oak Bluffs Public Library from noon to 1 p.m.

The Winter Mobile Market sets up at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital in Oak Bluffs from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. and tonight’s Community Dinner is at Grace Episcopal Church in Vineyard Haven from 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.

At the Wharf in Edgartown, the Vineyard Girls Hockey Auction is on from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. with live and silent auctions to support the team.

Also in Edgartown, Mike Benjamin plays acoustic covers from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Newes from America and the Brothers McMahon entertain at Town Bar & Grill starting at 7 p.m.

It’s Music Night at Pathways in Chilmark, with Alex Karalekas, Isaac Taylor, Willie Mason and Jodie Treloar, starting at 7 p.m.

At the Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse, Wicked Good Musical Review opens with performances tonight and tomorrow at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

The epic film 1917 plays Edgartown Cinemas at 4 p.m.

 

Saturday, Jan. 25 | Hail the haggis

Get in touch with your inner gardener and plan for spring at the Regenerative Backyard Workshop, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Oak Bluffs library.

The Moby-Dick Book Club meets from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Carnegie in Edgartown and The Lost Whaling Fleets of the Western Arctic is a talk from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Martha’s Vineyard Museum in Vineyard Haven.

Celebrating poet Robert Burns and all things Scottish, the Island’s annual Burns Nicht Supper takes place at the PA Club in Oak Bluffs beginning at 5 p.m.

Academy Award contender Parasite plays the Martha’s Vineyard Film Center in Vineyard Haven at 7:30 p.m.

At the Ritz in Oak Bluffs, the 2nd Power Reunion Show brings together Island musicians Eric Luening, Pinto Abrams, Phil daRosa and more, starting at 10 p.m.

 

Sunday, Jan. 26 | Fling a disc

Year-round, friendly Disc Golf Doubles begin at 10 a.m. at the Riverhead Disc Golf Course on Barnes Road in Edgartown.

Writers looking for a quiet place to compose their thoughts are invited to Open Writing Hours from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Featherstone Center for the Arts in Oak Bluffs.

There’s a Dressmaking Gathering to finish dresses for girls, under the auspices of the nonprofit Hope4Women International, at the West Tisbury library from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker plays Edgartown Cinemas at 3:45 p.m. and at the Ritz, the Holy Rock & Roll Revival starts at 7:30 p.m.
