Island Time, Dec. 12-15: Christmas in Edgartown — And All Around the Island

This weekend’s 38th annual Christmas in Edgartown is bigger than ever, with festive events from morning to night. Traditional highlights include the lighthouse illumination Friday night and Saturday morning’s Christmas parade, but that’s only the beginning. Other Island towns are rocking this weekend too, with fairs and gift shows, films, music and more. Friday, Dec. 13 | Light the night
If you’re shopping for art, this could be your lucky day. The Carnegie in Edgartown’s annual Gifts of Art show and sale of works by such local artists as Margot Datz, Marston Clough, Colin Ruel and Jeanne Staples is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. At a private home in West Tisbury, you can shop for African sculptures and crafts at the African Artists Community Development Program Holiday Gift Showfrom noon to 4 p.m. with proceeds to benefit charity work in Africa.
Next? Vanquish your fear of phyllo in the Make & Take Phyllo class, at the Oak Bluffs Public Library from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., then make your way to either West Tisbury, where the annual Town Holiday Party starts at 6 p.m. at Agricultural Hall, or to Edgartown, where a multitude of Christmas festivities await: horse-drawn wagon rides from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., the lighthouse lighting at 6 p.m., the annual Minnesingers Christmas concert at 8 p.m. and more.
In Vineyard Haven, the Martha’s Vineyard Film Center screens The Two Popes at 7:30 p.m. and in Oak Bluffs, Mike Benjamin plays the Ritz at 10 p.m.
Saturday, Dec. 14 | Love a parade
The holiday sales continue today with Handmade from the Heart, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Dr. Daniel Fisher House in Edgartown, with handcrafted gifts to benefit Hospice of Martha’s Vineyard, and the Jewelry Jingle, benefiting the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital, at the Anchors in Edgartown from 9 a.m. to noon.
A Sengekontacket Pond beach cleanup from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. includes gloves, hot cocoa and doughnuts.
The First Congregational Church of West Tisbury holds its Christmas Faire from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Polly Hill Arboretum has a Winter Arboretum Walk from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The annual Christmas in Edgartown parade takes place on Main Street between Pease’s Point Way and Water Street from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
The Holiday Gift Show at Featherstone Center for the Arts in Oak Bluffs continues daily from noon to 4 p.m.
Edgartown Cinemas is showing Ford v. Ferrari at 3:30 p.m. and 6:45 p.m.
Sunday, Dec. 15 | The Santa chronicles
Santa Comes to Chappy: Meet Santa Claus at remote Cape Poge Light this morning with the Trustees of Reservations from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. (complimentary shuttle, registration required).
The annual Teddy Bear Trot 5k and fun fun, benefiting the nutrition program at the Boys & Girls Club of Martha’s Vineyard, is from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the club in Edgartown.
The Chilmark Holiday Flea Market, at the Chilmark Community Center, runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Family Glow Bowling starts at noon at the Barn Bowl & Bistro in Oak Bluffs and the Portuguese American Club has a Christmas Party with Santa—and OB firefighters—starting at 1 p.m.
Offerings of Music and Light continue at the Chilmark Community Church at 5 p.m.
The Capawock in Vineyard Haven screens Marriage Story at 7:30 p.m.
