November 15-17: Gift Shows, Benefit Concert, Pie Class!

If you don’t mind dodging a few raindrops, there are still plenty of good reasons to get out and about this weekend, from hot new films to a benefit concert featuring just about every musician on the Rock. Friday, Nov. 15 | Artful gifts
From 6 pm. to 8 p.m., Featherstone Center for the Arts in Oak Bluffs invites you to the preview party for its holiday gift show, while the collaborative Workshop Gallery in Vineyard Haven hosts an opening party for its holiday pop-up shop. Pick one or go to both!
At 7 p.m., Bunch of Grapes book store in Vineyard Haven holds a book talk and signing with best-selling author Susan Wilson, whose new novel is The Dog I Loved.
Pathways, the winter arts incubator in Chilmark, presents a multi-arts evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. with artists, filmmakers, composers, musicians and writers who have received grants from the Martha’s Vineyard Cultural Council, including singer-songwriter and Vineyard Gazette photographer Mark Alan Lovewell, who used his grant to record a CD of seafaring songs.
The Capawock Theatre in Vineyard Haven screens The Good Liar, with Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren, at 7:30 p.m. In Oak Buffs, Cottage City Collective plays live at the Ritz starting at 8:30 p.m. and DJ AP entertains at the Cardboard Box beginning at 10 p.m.
Saturday, Nov. 16 | Pie Tricks
Learn to make pie, from pastry to filling, with Pie Chicks’ Chrissy Kinsman—and take your own pie home. Class meets at the FARM Institute in Edgartown from 10 a.m. to noon.
In Vineyard Haven, Louisa Gould Gallery opens its annual Small Wonders Show, featuring new, small works for gift-giving, with a reception from noon to 3 p.m.
The much-talked-about South Korean film Parasite plays at 4 p.m. at the Martha’s Vineyard Film Center in Vineyard Haven.
Members of the Wampanoag Tribe host a presentation, potluck dinner and conversation titled The Thanksgiving Myth Busted, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Agricultural Hall in West Tisbury.
Edgartown Cinemas screens Ford v. Ferrari at 3:45 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Sunday, Nov. 17 | Musical Vineyard
In Aquinnah, the Sargent Gallery holds an open house from noon to 4 p.m. The gallery’s current exhibition includes work on sea level rise by environmental photographer Alex MacLean.
Noepe Center for the Arts at Featherstone has Open Writing Hours from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for anyone who needs a quiet place to write.
Island author Mathea Morais talks about her new novel There You Are at the West Tisbury library at 3 p.m.
At 4 p.m., the Martha’s Vineyard Film Center and Island Housing Trust collaborate to present The Last Black Man in San Francisco, with Danny Glover, at 4 p.m. with refreshments in the film center lobby starting at 3:15 p.m.
A Who’s Who of Martha’s Vineyard musicians, including Kate Taylor, Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish, The Jelly Roll Horns and dozens more, play the Heart Hope Unitybenefit for singer Sabrina Luening from 4 p.m. to midnight at the Portuguese-American Club in Oak Bluffs.
At the Lambert’s Cove Inn in West Tisbury, chef Jimmy Alvarado presents a pan-Asian Noodle Night from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
