1. Oyster Farm Sunset Tour, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday, August 12
A great family adventure, Farm.Field.Sea’s oyster farm tours introduce you to the Island‘s booming oyster farm industry. Enjoy the sunset on Vineyard sound, eat tasty oysters, and learn about shellfish, too.
2. Exhibit Opening: Picturing the Fair, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday, August 13. Martha’s Vineyard Museum, Vineyard Haven
Eleven local photographers captured the 2018 Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Fair.
3. Grand Illumination Night, 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 14, Trinity Park Tabernacle, Oak Bluffs
Dating from the turn of the 19th century, this annual tradition is one of the most beloved on Martha’s Vineyard. A sing-along in the Tabernacle is followed after dark by the lighting of countless lanterns all around Trinity Park.
4. Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Fair, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., Thursday, August 15 through Sunday, August 18 (closes 7 p.m. Sunday), Agricultural Hall, West Tisbury
With rides, games, shucking and fiddle contests, skillet toss and livestock shows and the exhibition barn, the 158th annual fair is not to be missed.
5. Oak Bluffs Fireworks, Friday, August 16, 9 p.m., Ocean Park, Oak Bluffs
An old-fashioned band concert begins at 8 p.m. with the Vineyard Haven Band, which was founded more than 150 years ago. After dark, spectacular fireworks will light up the sky. The Oak Bluffs Fireman’s Civic Association presents the annual display.
