Island Time 2, June 24-27: Free Wheeling

June 24, 2019

Summer’s really rolling now, with fun things to do all day and into the night. Here are five things to check out this week. Find everything that’s happening in the Complete Martha’s Vineyard Calendar.

1. The Featherstone Flea & Fine Art Market returns Tuesday, June 25 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Featherstone Center for the Arts in Oak Bluffs.
Every Tuesday when it’s not raining, Vineyard artists bring their jewelry, art, clothing and crafts, and spread their wares outside across the grounds of the Featherstone campus. It’s a great opportunity to meet local artisans, find art and crafts bargains and explore the grounds of the community art center, a former farm on Barnes Road.

2. Guided Arboretum Tours begin Tuesday, June 25 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Polly Hill Arboretum in West Tisbury.
These “Looking Together” walks through the Arboretum and its plant collections take place every other Tuesday afternoon. Led by knowledgeable staff and docents, these specialized tours are designed to offer an in-depth experience, each focusing on a different aspect of the Arboretum. Meet at the Visitor Center.

3.  Lights and Lighthouses: A Class on All Things Lighthouses takes place Wednesday, June 26 and Thursday, June 27 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Martha’s Vineyard Museum in Vineyard Haven.
Learn all about lighthouses and their lights from James (Jim) Woodward, who recently led the efforts to move, restore, and reassemble the 1854 Fresnel lens in the new museum.

4. Inviolable—The Fight for Human Rights, directed by Island resident Angela Andersen, screens Wednesday, June 26 at 7:30 p.m. at the Martha’s Vineyard Film Center in Vineyard Haven.
Meet people who are tirelessly fighting for human rights in China, Guatemala, Turkey, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Canada, USA, Indonesia, and Kenya in Ms. Anderson’s new documentary.

From his teenage years with Fairport Convention to his groundbreaking work with Linda Thompson and his 19 solo albums to date, Richard Thompson remains a riveting performer whether he’s fronting a band or appearing solo with his guitar and voice.
