Music makes the season merry!  Whether you’re a fan of traditional Christmas carols or in the mood for some holiday rock ‘n roll, there’s a concert or music event for you here on the Vineyard in the next two weeks. Add these festive events to your holiday plans, and celebrate the season with the happy sounds of jingling bells and choral music before rocking in the New Year.

Wednesday, December 12

Reflections of Peace Christmas Concert
For decades the Island community has gathered to celebrate the spirit of the season at this very special evening filled with Christmas music. This year, the Old Whaling Church will host the event, with 100% of the proceeds donated to support Hospice of Martha’s Vineyard.

MET Opera Live: La Traviata
As a special holiday treat, head over to the Martha’s Vineyard Film Center’s presentation of  La Traviata conducted by Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin.  Featured in this new production of Verdi’s timeless masterpiece is a dazzling 18th-century setting that changes with the seasons.

Winter Concert: Martha’s Vineyard Children’s Chorus
Is there anything more delightful during the season than the sound of children’s voices raised in happy anticipation of the holiday? Drop in at the Old Whaling Church as the winter sun sets and soak up some of the magic of this joyful experience.


Tuesday, December 18
6 pm to 7:15 pm
Winter Concert & Community Sing: Songs of Peace, Hope & Light
Winter holiday observances have been world-wide traditions over the millennia. Celebrate our shared humanity at this concert at the Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center. Directed by Roberta Kirn, The MV Family Chorus presents uplifting songs from around the world. All are invited to participate.

Holiday Concert: Vineyard Classic Brass Ensemble
The Chilmark Free Public Library literally brings out the brass band for a rousing celebration of holiday classics. This free event is sure to be fun for the whole family and is a great way to keep the good times and holiday mood humming.

Monday, December 24
9 pm & 9:45 pm
What better way to get in the spirit of the holiday than Christmas Eve Carols performed at Island Churches.  A program of Traditional Carols will be offered at Grace Episcopal Church in Vineyard Haven beginning at 9 pm and a Christmas Eve Choral Service at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Edgartown at 9:45 pm.  Check the night sky for Santa as you head home.

Ritz New Year Celebration
Say  adios to 2018 and ring in 2019 at one of Martha’s Vineyard’s long time, homegrown hangouts.   Island homeboys Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish and Evan Hammond & Shane McGovern will have us all ready to rock as the New Year rolls in on MV.
