Speed Limit Changes Approved in Oak Bluffs
June 1, 2018
Martha’s Vineyard – Oak Bluffs selectmen have approved a measure that will lower the speed limit on certain town streets from 30 to 25 miles per hour.
Until recently, under state law, the speed limit on thickly settled streets (defined as areas where houses are closer than 200 feet apart), whether posted by signs or not, is 30 miles per hour. A new state law now allows that speed to be lowered at a town’s discretion. Signs will be posted on roads leading into Oak Bluffs notifying drivers of the lower limits where applicable.
