Kelp Farming Experiment Identifies Food Source

Martha’s Vineyard – Following a winter kelp farming experiment off  Menemsha, The Martha’s Vineyard Shellfish Group and Fisherman’s Preservation Trust concluded that kelp farming  has the potential to become a cottage industry providing a healthy local food source on Martha’s Vineyard . The findings were recently presented at the Chilmark Library.

Needing little training or equipment to grow, kelp is a native plant that grows best in the winter months and is regarded as a sustainable food since it requires no land or fertilizer.
