beach1An amazing week kicks off Martha’s Vineyard’s amazing month of August.  Six out of our nine featured events this week are Island ‘classics’ ~ looked forward to year after year with anticipation and excitement by locals and visitors alike.  From spinning sculptures out of sand to dreaming big dreams, from mega stars on stage and screen, the Week Ahead ensures that even if you have come to the Island for a low key lay-about on hammock or sand, you will still have the option to enjoy some great, entertainment, events and activities.  Enjoy the Week Ahead! 

Friday, July 29
“Flying Over Sunset”
Director and playwright James Lapine (Into The Woods), composer Tom Kitt (Next to Normal) and lyricist Michael Korie (Grey Gardens) return with their latest musical.

Saturday July 30
The MV Concert Series presents two great shows today: political commentator Amy Goodman speaks at the Old Whaling Church in Edgartown and  Chadwick Stokes takes the stage with his activist-driven music at the Union Chapel in Oak Bluffs.

38th Annual Art Buchwald Possible Dreams Auction
Martha’s Vineyard Community Services 38th Annual Art Buchwald Possible Dreams Auction works its magic at the Oceanside Winnetu Resort in Edgartown.

Wednesday, August 3
The Moth
Hosted by Lynn Ferguson Returning to Martha’s Vineyard for the fifth year, The Moth’s flagship program feature stories by luminaries in the art.

Sand Sculpture Contest
This family event is great for the creative at heart and your budding little builders. So pack your pails and shovels and head to South Beach!

Thursday, August 4
19th Annual Water Tasting by the Sea
Sip still and sparkling waters, savor scrumptious foods and sweets, while you take in the view at one of the Vineyard’s premiere waterfront destinations. Silent auction, raffle and live music.
