June Delights
June 16, 2024
The water is heating up, the pollen is easing slightly, the roads are busy, the beaches not yet so, the stores are open but the lines still manageable, the strawberries have arrived, the asparagus has waved goodbye, Island schools are still in session (until Tuesday) but the summer bell has rung for others, the nights are longer, the early mornings magnificent.
June can be such a lovely month — a time to do nothing at all, or all of everything, from lighthouse tours, to museum exhibits and artisans festivals.
The Vineyard’s Juneteenth celebrations also begin this week. On Wednesday there is a panel discussion at Union Chapel called Improving Representation in the Maritime Industry, on Saturday take part in a jubilee festival, again at Union Chapel, and on Sunday enjoy a gospel brunch at the Harbor View Hotel. But that is just a small sampling of the banquet to choose from.
Enjoy it all.

Strawberries are in season and that means sweetness is in the air. Morning Glory Farm in Edgartown is calling one and all to the red berry altar for its annual Strawberry Festival.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. enjoy strawberries in all manner of undress — in shortcakes, smoothies, by their lonesome. It’s all good.
