The regional high school celebrates the class of 2024 this weekend with class night on Friday, where students feel the love of their Island community through a scholarship extravaganza that each year exceeds $1 million. Then on Sundaygraduation takes place at the Tabernacle, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Caps go in the air later that afternoon as the Island’s future sets off on their post high school journeys.
It is also Pride weekend, with the parade taking place Saturday at 3 p.m. It begins at the Island Queen and heads over to Ocean Park.
If baseball is your thing, the Sharks are back in town, the collegiate baseball league that calls the Vineyard home each summer. The first game was Tuesday, but there’s plenty more action at the Shark Tank all summer long.
Sunday is meet your poet laureate day. Claudia Taylor is the new poet laureate and gets an Island welcome on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Featherstone Center for the Arts.

Artists, musicians and cooks will be out in full force at the season’s First Friday event in Vineyard Haven on June 7.
The day-long festival begins with an art market along Beach street extension at 10 a.m. and concludes with a silent disco in Owen Park at 9 p.m.

The Underground Railroad was not limited to land, but included a network of maritime routes along the Atlantic seaboard. The new exhibition sheds light on how freedom was achieved by sea, including the waters around Martha’s Vineyard. It opens on June 8.
The Playhouse Presents the Lesson
The Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse presents The Lesson this Friday and Saturday. The original solo play is written and performed by Tyrone Davis Jr., details a community’s charged response to a well-intentioned lesson about sexual education at an elite New York City school.
The West Tisbury Farmers’ Market turns 50 this year at the Agricultural Society grounds. Opening day is Saturday, June 8 from 9 a.m. noon, and returns every Wednesday and Saturday throughout the summer.
