That Extra Day

That Extra Day

February 22, 2024

The shortest month is a little longer in 2024, thanks to leap year, the once-every-four-years phenomenon that adds a day to February. How how will you enjoy your extra day? Step out of your busy life and unlock your creativity by joining a Slow Stitching Circle at PathwaysARTS. Cook up some chicken and dumplings soup with Chef Chris Look at the Edgartown library. Pick up some acting and improv skills at Theater Fun for Adults at the Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse. Or just recover from a vigorous game of Millennial Pickleball the night before.

Check The Complete Martha’s Vineyard Calendar for a full list of activities and events to make most of your February. March will soon be roaring in.

Motorcycle Magic

Dive deep into the world of Charlie Giordano, the artist whose work is the focus of a new exhibit at Martha’s Vineyard Museum. On Thursday, Feb. 22 at 5:30 p.m., the artist will offer a behind-the-scenes look at his creative process building the Voodoo Doll motorcycle and celebrating the intersection of art, mechanics, resiliency and new paths. Can’t make it tonight? Visit the Clearly Misunderstood: C. F. Giordano exhibit on view at the museum through May 5.

Be Kind to Our Waters

If you love First Fridays, Sunday evening concerts by the Vineyard Haven Band, the annual Town Picnic or the view from a hilltop down to the water, you owe it to Vineyard Haven’s waterfront parks to help keep them clean. Join Vineyard Conservation Society and the Beach Be-Frienders on Saturday, Feb. 24 for a clean-up of the Tisbury waterfront. Check in at Owen Park or the Tashmoo Overlook any time starting at 2 p.m. before joining fellow community members in caring for some of Islanders’ favorite places. The clean-up continues until moonrise, which is arriving later and later each day.

Signs of Spring

Start your outdoor springtime pursuits early by exploring a historic Land Bank property. On Sunday, March 3, join staff from the Martha’s Vineyard Land Bank for a guided tour of Fulling Mill Brook Preserve in Chilmark.
