The long holiday weekend begins today, a last hurrah for summer as the Vineyard segues to a glorious fall. Compared to the last few weeks filled with festivals, the fair, fireworks and more, the next several days offer the space and time for family gatherings, beach days, long hikes, art strolls and a little shopping. Stop by First Friday in Vineyard Haven tomorrow night, take part in a fun run at Felix Neck on Saturday morning or hit the 28th Annual Vineyard Artisans Labor Day Weekend Festival over the weekend. Tonight at 7 p.m., The Red House Peer Recovery Support Center will commemorate Overdose Awareness Month with a
luminaria display on the seawall of the drawbridge in Oak Bluffs.
MV Soundfest 2023’s second holiday weekend concert of the year takes place on Sunday, Sept. 3 at The Cove Golf and Grill in Vineyard Haven. From 2 to 10 p.m., enjoy a musical mashup of reggae, rock and soul headlined by Anthony B and featuring local and national bands.
The Old Sculpin Gallery on Dock street in Edgartown welcomes a group of artists showing their new work in an exhibit opening this weekend. An
opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 3 launches the show and celebrates artists LA Brown, Susan Convery, Libby Ellis, Kurt Peterson, Sharon Rosenfeld and June Schoppe.
The Ritz Cafe in Oak Bluffs closes out Labor Day weekend with an end of summer beach party that also benefits the fire victims on Maui.
The Labor Day Luau for Maui Strong starts at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 4; DJ AP will be spinning tunes throughout the evening.
