Right on the heels of the fair comes more excitement: Beach Road Weekend, the music festival bringing Mumford & Sons, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Patti Smith, Bon Iver, Leon Bridges and more acts to Veterans Memorial Park in Vineyard Haven starting on Friday, August 25 and running through Sunday, August 27. There are still some three-day and single-day passes available if you’re up for the concert vibe this weekend.
If you’re looking for something a little more mellow, why not check out the Vineyard Artisans Festival at the Grange Hall in West Tisbury today (Thursday, August 24, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) or the Vineyard Antique and Fleaon Friday, August 25, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (also at the Grange Hall). You could pick your own sunflowers at The FARM Institute (Thursday, August 24 and Friday August 25, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) or view any one of dozens of art exhibits. Head to the Eisenhauer Gallery on North Water street in Edgartown tonight. Designer Dorian Webb will speak about the power of art and her jewelry-making process starting at 6 p.m. On the brick patio outside the gallery, Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish will play this week’s Music in the Square concert, also starting at 6 p.m.
This weekend, Milokan Cultural Center — based at Native Earth Teaching Farm in Chilmark — is hosting special guests for its Awakening Souls Festival of Music and Art. Join master drummer and Yoruban cultural ambassador Jah Baba for a drumming session on Friday, August 25 at 10 a.m. and a family concert on Sunday, August 27 at 5 p.m., or take a family-friendly African dance class with Dr. P. Quasimah Boston on Sunday, August 27 at 3 p.m.
Join Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary on Sunday, August 27 for the third annual Amity Shark Race starting at 10:30 a.m. at Little Bridge in Oak Bluffs. Watch the wooden shark fins compete for the Shark Fin Trophy, all while raising money for the wildlife sanctuary.

Artist Danny Simmons Jr. will hold a meet and greet at the Mariposa Museum in Oak Bluffs on Sunday, August 27 at 3 p.m. On exhibit will be his Sister2Sista mixed media series and Danny’s books of poetry will be for sale.
Enjoy next week’s full moon — called the Blue Moon — out on the water. On Tuesday night, August 29, The Trustees of Reservations staff will lead a guided full moon kayak tourat Long Point starting at 7:30 p.m. An onshore s’mores roast will follow. Reservations are required.
