On the Water

On the Water

July 13, 2023
It’s all happening on the water — or on the waterfront — this weekend. The Edgartown Yacht Club’s 100th Annual Regatta began yesterday and runs through Sunday, and the annual Catboat Parade of Sail (below) is happening on Saturday. There are kayak and stand-up paddleboard tours galore, as well.
But never fear, there are plenty of land-based activities on the calendar, as well, especially for those who enjoy the arts. The Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse has a new production of Twelfth Night at the Tisbury Amphitheater. The Oak Bluffs Arts District Stroll is happening Saturday afternoon. The Annual Native Artisan Market and Festival is also taking place on Saturday afternoon, in Aquinnah. And you can dance the night away or listen to live music to your heart’s content.
Read on for a few of our picks and then visit The Complete Martha’s Vineyard Calendar for a regularly updated list of events and happenings.
Put your dancing shoes on and head to the Tabernacle on Saturday, July 15. MVY Radio is holding a free community dance party to celebrate its 40th anniversary. The station’s DJs will be spinning tunes starting at 6 p.m.
The Feast of the Holy Ghost is back this Saturday, July 15 and Sunday, July 16! On Saturday, enjoy great food (including sopa), drinks, live music, dancing, BBQ, and games for the kids. On Sunday, the procession down Vineyard avenue, as well as free sopa back at the club, honors Queen Isabella’s generosity.
The Martha’s Vineyard Hospital holds its annual fundraiser, the Summer Soiree, on Sunday, July 16. Entertainment, food and an auction to benefit the hospital will all be available at Farm Neck Golf Club starting at 5:30 p.m. This is a ticketed event and tickets can be purchased ahead online.
Saturday, July 15 Edgartown Harbor will fill with sails as the fleet of historic catboats joins the annual catboat Parade of Sail. The parade begins at noon, but you can start the morning off with a 10 a.m. visit to Old Sculpin Gallery to view its maritime-themed exhibit and marvel at the building where Manuel Swartz Roberts built catboats. Park at the Edgartown Triangle and ride the free Catboat Trolley to Memorial Wharf operating between 10 a.m. and noon.
