No more messing around; it’s time to start taking summer seriously! In addition to lobster rolls and ice cream cones, beach walks and evening swims, that means doing a little of everything you dream an Island summer should be.
You might start off on Friday, June 30 by listening to Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish on the lawn at Featherstone Center for the Arts at 6:30 p.m. or by heading to The Vineyard’s Drive-In at the YMCA at 8:30 p.m. to see the film Encanto.
On Saturday, July 1 you could go for a guided kayak tour on Long Cove Pond at 8 a.m., visit the Chilmark Flea Market (9 a.m. to 2 p.m.), or take the kids on a pony ride at Misty Meadows (10 a.m. to noon, preregistration required). Wind up the day at the Tabernacle in Oak Bluffs for the Island Community Chorus’ summer concert, starting at 8 p.m.
On Sunday, July 2, check out the Vineyard Artisans Festival at the Grange Hall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Spend the evening in Ocean Park listening to the Vineyard Haven Band; the summer concert begins at 7:30 p.m.
There’s a farm tour with meadow wagon ride at the FARM Institute on Monday, July 3. And the World Market Mondays Pop-Up Craft Fairhappens every Monday in the summer at the Grange Hall, starting at 10 a.m. This year the annual reading of Frederick Douglass’s What, To The Slave, Is The Fourth of July is happening on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Federated Church in Edgartown.
And of course, the Fourth of July is Tuesday, July 4 and the festivities begin with the Children’s Fourth of July Parade in the Martha’s Vineyard Campground at 9:45 a.m. The Edgartown Fourth of July Parade begins at 5 p.m. Remember to take public transportation and arrive early for a good spot. The Fourth of July Fireworks begin that evening over Edgartown harbor at 9 p.m.

KIN on North Water street in Edgartown is holding a fashion show and art exhibit tonight (Thursday, June 29) to benefit the historic John Coffin House. The Black and White Show is open from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Cocktails and dessert will be served!
Close out Pride Month with Black Joy MV and Orange Peel Bakery on Friday, June 30. Enjoy food, music and dancing at the LGBTQ2IA+ Pride Party at Orange Peel in Aquinnah from 7 to 10 p.m.
On Saturday, July 1, the Field Gallery in West Tisbury is holding its first artists’ premiere of the season. Celebrate the artwork of Jhenn Watts, Rachael Cassiani and Kenneth Pillsworth from 4 to 6 p.m.
Honor local veterans on Sunday, July 2 at the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks Veterans Night. Admission is free for veterans and Gold Star parents. Proceeds from the game will be donated to support the Veterans Grant Fund at Martha’s Vineyard Community Services. The game and fundraising options start at 7:05 at the Shark Tank at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School in Oak Bluffs.
Local youth programs will benefit from funds raised through the 22nd annual Murdick’s Run the Chop Challenge. This four-mile road race and kids’ fun run leaves from St. Augustine’s Church in Vineyard Haven at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, July 4. Be sure to pre-register.
Songwriters for Island Elder Housing is a fundraiser happening at the Tabernacle on Friday, June 30 at 7:30 p.m. The benefit features John Forte, Rose Guerin, Jemima James, Willy Mason, Lexie Roth, Chadwick Stokes, Ben Taylor, Isaac Taylor and Kate Taylor playing “in the round.” Buy tickets here.
