No skulduggery here – Halloween on the Island really is a treat this year. A frightful number of spooky events spanning three ghastly days mean you will have to pick your poison – or your passion. Tiny trick-or-treaters and adult-size zombies alike will find a simmering witch’s brew of options, from costume contests to horror flicks.
A quick heads-up (not heads off): special activities for the little ghouls occur in Oak Bluffs on Saturday from 1:30 to 4 p.m., in Edgartown on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and in Vineyard Haven on Monday starting at 3:45, followed by trick-or-treating. Trick or treat while finding hidden treasure at the Halloween Days at Pirates Puzzle Escape Room in Edgartown. This special adventure is open every day from 12 to 3 p.m. through Sunday, Oct. 30.
Kids of all ages can enjoy free screenings of Monsters, Inc. at the newly reopened Strand Theater in Oak Bluffs. The movie will be shown at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27 and Friday, Oct. 28 and at 12 p.m. on Saturday — just before the Halloween Parade and Costume Contest on Circuit avenue.
Grown-ups, get your costumes ready early and join the annual Zombie Bar Crawl on Circuit avenue on Friday night, Oct. 28. The fun starts at 7 p.m. in Post Office Square. Participating businesses are Sharky’s, Dos Mas, Offshore Ale and The Ritz.
The Strand Theatre has reopened its doors to the local and neighboring communities of Martha’s Vineyard. Join us during the Halloween season to enjoy Disney’s Monsters, Inc. Admission is free for those who register online. Seating is limited, so act now before tickets run out.
If scary movies are your thing, head to West Tisbury for Circuit Arts’ Fright Fest on Friday, Oct. 28 through Sunday, Oct. 30. Classic horror and mystery films will be shown as well as a special screening of the black and white classic The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. It’s a silent film but this showing is accompanied by live organ music. All films start at 7 p.m.
Costume contests, pumpkin carving and painting, live music, food — it’s all happening at Bad Martha Farmer’s Brewery Halloween events on Saturday, Oct. 29 and Sunday, Oct. 30 from 12 to 9 p.m.
Honor your ancestors at the Day of the Death commemorationled by members of the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah). The event takes place at the Aquinnah Cultural Center on Wednesday, Nov. 2 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
