Join the Festivities

October 6, 2022
Consider this your unofficial invitation to the dance. In other words, get festive – it’s a gloriously long holiday weekend filled with music, art, food, crafts and more, capped off on Monday afternoon by an Indigenous Peoples Day 2022 event hosted by Sassafras Earth Education at Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary at 4 p.m. Pack your weekend with live music, starting tonight with Johnny Hoy and Delanie Pickering at Offshore Ale in Oak Bluffs at 7 p.m. Tomorrow, stop by First Friday in Vineyard Haven to hear a variety of artists; then be sure to schedule some time at the annual LadyFest concert on Saturday between 2 and 9 p.m. (details below).
If you need to hang up your dancing shoes, take a rest at the Grange Hall in West Tisbury and view one of seven films in The Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival’s Mini Fall Film Festival, running Friday through Monday. Or discover something new – take a tour of historic Edgartown starting from The Carnegie, where you can preview the fabulous Bass in the Grass exhibit and auction. Or head up to Chilmark, where the Simon Gallery will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
For more ideas, see our picks below and be sure to visit The Complete Martha’s Vineyard Calendar for regular updates.
LadyFest will rock Circuit avenue in Oak Bluffs from 2 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8. This annual festival supporting CONNECT to End Violence features three stages of female-fueled music played in many genres. It’s a free event but donations are welcome and will support programs to reduce sexual and domestic violence on the Island.

Don’t miss Vineyard Haven’s last First Friday festival of the season. Head to Owen Park on Friday, Oct. 7 from 4 to 10 p.m. for food, live music on the beach and from the barge, art and the PathwaysARTS silent disco.
Rebecca Gilbert invites all to Native Earth Teaching Farm in Chilmark on Saturday, Oct. 8 for community sharing at Brazilian Night. Bring a picnic, your family, stories, and heritage traditions. Prepare to make new friends from 6 to 9 p.m.
Preview fashion looks from Island designers at the Edgartown Public Library’s Fall Fashion Show on Saturday, Oct. 8. From 4 to 5 p.m., you’ll see the latest designs from Angela Sison of Conrado, Randi Sylvia of Kenworthy and Gareth Brown of Rooey Knots. Registration required for this event.
Pumpkins and Gourds, Oh My!
Vineyard Gardens on State Road in West Tisbury welcomes all to its Harvest Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8. Learn something new through a nature craft workshop, browse the plants, enjoy music and warm up with fall foods.
