Finding Your Pearl

Finding Your Pearl

September 15, 2022

In September, the Vineyard truly is your oyster. Whatever it is you love to do – fish, hike, shop, gather, create, eat, relax — you can pursue with abandon. Who knows where the pearl lies? With a blue sky above you, a gentle breeze behind you, and an open parking spot before you, the possibilities are wide open. If you need a nudge, scan our event picks below, then head to the The Complete Martha’s Vineyard Calendar for even more ideas about what to do in the days ahead. If you’re planning a meal out, be sure to check What’s Open on Martha’s Vineyard; many restaurants and retail shops are beginning to alter their hours with the change of seasons.

Part-time Vineyarder Brooke Adams will be on the big screen at the Grange Hall in West Tisbury this weekend but also in front of it. Join her on Friday and Saturday nights, Sept. 16 and 17, at 7 p.m. for a screening and discussion of the film Vengeance is Mine. Originally made in 1984, the film is finally receiving its theatrical release.
Is summer really over? Not until Tivoli Day takes place! This Saturday, Sept. 17, enjoy music, arts, crafts, food and fun at this daylong celebration on Circuit avenue in Oak Bluffs. Festivities begin at 10 a.m. and wrap up at 6 p.m.
From 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, Featherstone Center for the Arts hosts its annual Potter’s Bowl fundraiser. Select and buy a beautiful handmade bowl and then enjoy the locally made soup, bread and dessert to fill it with.
On Saturday morning, explore the 100-acre Middle Road Sanctuary in Chilmark during a walk led by a guide from Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation. Learn about the area’s glacial history as you experience the property’s ridges and valleys. The walk is offered for free and begins at 10 a.m.
The 15th annual Tisbury Firefighters Car Show takes place at Veterans Memorial Park in Vineyard Haven, starting at 12 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18. In addition to fun cars to check out, there will be music, vendors and a cornhole competition.
Sunday, Sept. 18 is Kids Derby Day, open to kids 4 to 14, no registration needed. Fish are judged by length, not weight. Get up early – the event runs from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. at the Oak Bluffs Ferry Wharf.
