Ticket to Ride

August 18, 2022

This week will make your head spin, even if you’re not hopping on the gravitron at the Fair, which opens this morning at 10 a.m. A dazzling line-up of performances, comedyexhibits and events, including Friday night’s Oak Bluffs Fireworks, makes it hard to choose what to do and where to be when. Take a look at some highlights below, then check out The Complete Martha’s Vineyard Calendar. Consider carpooling or riding the bus, and if you’re driving remember to leave plenty of time to find parking spots or to navigate traffic.

The Complete Martha’s Vineyard Calendar

Meet nine Black authors writing a wide range of material, from children’s books to non-fiction for adults to songbooks and history of Black spirituals. The Island’s homegrown favorite son Willy Mason will be singing blues, folk and rock at the P.A. Club on Friday, August 19 at 9 p.m. as a lead up to a European tour he’s about to set sail for. Lucy Mayhew opens.
The annual 5K Run for Jabberwocky takes place on Saturday, August 20. Run, rock or roll across the Katama plains in this fundraiser for Camp Jabberwocky. Registration fees vary and pre-registration is suggested. The fun starts at 9 a.m. at the FARM Institute.
