Sunrise to Sunset: Island Time, July 14

Sunrise to Sunset: Island Time, July 14

July 14, 2022

Whatever you do this weekend, get down to the water’s edge, go for a swim, take a boat ride, paddle a kayak. These sublime July days were made for enjoying the very thing that makes the Island an island! The sun bouncing off the water, whether a reflection at sunset or the glitter and sparkle of sunrise on gentle waves, is almost too much to take. And yet we’ll take it, knowing summer doesn’t last forever. Of course you can’t stay at the beach all day, so plan accordingly: Take a glance at other events (below) to tuck into your schedule, then find the full listing of activities on the The Complete Martha’s Vineyard Calendar.

The week ahead offers some great opportunities to mingle and dine in beautiful places. At 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 16, The FARM Institute hosts Meals in the Meadow, a fundraiser featuring a farm to table dinner, music and silent auction that takes place in a field with views of the Katama Plains.
On Tuesday, July 19, you can celebrate climate change solutions and benefit Felix Neck’s education programs while dining amidst its fields and forests: Sanctuary Supper starts at 6 p.m. and will feature cocktails made with wild ingredients, an organic, plant-based meal and an auction.
At the Fund the Future Auction, benefiting the endowment fund at the Chappaquiddick Community Center, a raw bar, charcuterie table, and dinner from the El Gato food truck are on offer. The event, which features a live auction and the end of a silent auction, begins at 6 p.m.
Rock and roll biographer and music critic Peter Guralnick, whose books chart the rise of Elvis Presley, Sam Cooke, Sam Philips and others, will talk about the giants of rock history with historian Patricia Sullivan at the Chilmark Community Center tonight (Thursday, July 14) at 7:30 p.m. The event is part of the MV Author Series.
Berry shortcakes, smoothies, parfaits and pies (while they last!) are featured at this year’s Berry Festival at the First Congregational Church in the center of West Tisbury on Saturday, July 16 from 12 to 4 p.m. Relax on the lawn with lemonade and listen to live music.
Native American traditions, culture, and artwork will be celebrated on Saturday, July 16, at the 15th Annual Native American Artisan Market at the Aquinnah Circle starting at 11 a.m.
You can get your groove on at State Beach on Tuesday nights: Rhythm of Life, led by Rick Bausman, returns with its Drumming on the Beach celebration. Drums and dancing begin at 6 p.m.
WMVY’s popular porch series is being held at the Winnetu Oceanside Resort this year. This Tuesday, July 19, from 6 to 7:15 p.m., sip a cocktail and listen to Cristina Vane.
