Window Shopping: Island Time, Nov. 18

Window Shopping: Island Time, Nov. 18

November 18, 2021
Get out your day planners – the holidays are here and the Vineyard is ready. Bouncing back from a subdued holiday last year, towns, retail shops and artisans have so many good things in store for you. Christmas in Edgartown, scheduled for December 9 to12, is filling up with fun events (including the parade – hurrah!), but before that the Vineyard Artisans Thanksgiving Weekend Festival is happening. And you don’t even have to wait until next week to start shopping; the first ongoing holiday markets – at Featherstoneand at the Capawock – have already opened. The pop-up at Heather Gardens starts on Friday. (Find the complete list of holiday fairs and markets below). And this Saturday, there’s a special indoor farmers’ market at the Ag Hall (and another on December 18).
If you’re thinking ahead to next week’s Thanksgiving feast, be sure to check out What’s Open on Martha’s Vineyard for restaurants and gourmet shops offering dine-in and take-out options. Hosting at home? Find inspiration in Cook the Vineyard’s Thanksgiving recipe collection. And as always, check The Complete Martha’s Vineyard Calendar for updated event listings.
PathwaysARTS in Chilmark has never-before-seen artwork by Washington Ledesma on display in their gathering space through December. Patrons can view selected medium to large-scale works on canvas – such as a series of vibrantly colored action paintings – that Ledesma produced during his time in New York.
Visit Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Today (Thursday, November 18) from 4 to 5:30 p.m., Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary hosts an event with David Two Arrows Vanderhoop and other Wampanoag guest speakers titled The “Ungrateful Taking” – The Truth About Thanksgiving.
On Saturday, November 20 at 11 a.m., Martha’s Vineyard Museum hosts Darius Coombs, Cultural Outreach Coordinator for the Mashpee Wampanoag, for a talk titled Wampanoag and Noepe as One. Advance registration is required – choose between an in-person or virtual option.
On Saturday, November 20 at noon, there will be a Polar Plunge at Bend in the Road Beach in Edgartown to support the Martha’s Vineyard Boys & Girls Club. Not on the Island, but want to help out? Send a video of your own plunge to [email protected] by November 19 at 5 p.m.
On Saturday, November 20 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (rain or shine), kids big and small can get up close and personal with some of their favorite autos – from big trucks to unique vehicles – during the annual Truckin’ MV event at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School. Enjoy live music, face painting, raffles and snacks as well.
The Cape Cod Chamber Orchestra will make their Island debut on Saturday, November 20 at 4 p.m. at the Martha’s Vineyard Performing Arts Center in Oak Bluffs. Conducted by founding music director Matthew Scinto, the orchestra will perform works by Shaw, Barber, Handel, Tchaikovsky and others.
