We’re already halfway through January, days are getting longer (and lighter!), and spending time outdoors on the Vineyard is a winter balm. Take a guided hike or just explore on your own. Looking for end-of-season prices on garden decor, tools and more? Middletown Nursery in West Tisbury closes for the season after today’s comprehensive sale, taking place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Join the Trustees Sunday, January 17, at 11 a.m. for a two-hour hike to the historic remnants of the former brickworks in Chilmark, which dates to the 1860s. Registration is limited.
Monday, January 18 is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and the Vineyard NAACP will host its annual membership luncheon at 1 p.m. via Zoom with featured speaker Rev. Mariama White-Hammond, the founding pastor of New Roots AME Church in Dorchester who is also an advocate for ecological and social justice.
Jazz guitarist Joel Harrison plays a solo livestream concert at 7 p.m. on Jan. 22. The virtual concert is presented by the Edgartown Public Library, where he traditionally has played on the lawn during the library’s pre-pandemic summer concert series.
Play Vineyard Bingo and win prizes, including a gift certificate to the Bunch of Grapes Bookstore, Jan. 23 from 7 to 8 p.m. on Zoom. Sponsored by the Chilmark Library.
Little House Café in Vineyard Haven hosts a pop-up of artwork by Island painter Lily Keller, along with free baked goods and beverages, the next three Sundays from noon to 4 p.m.
The next theatre trivia contest from the Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse will take place at 5 p.m. Jan. 27 online, with real-world prizes delivered to the winners.
