Island Time, Oct. 8 – Oct. 14: The Show Goes On

October 8, 2020

The most beautiful month on the Vineyard also offers plenty to do, from Derby fishing to art shows to light shows (sunset and sunrise, that is). We’ve got a complete list of restaurants that are open, indoors or out, and a complete guide to events on the Island. But don’t just take our suggestions; wander off the beaten path and discover the hidden gems of October.

The Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival opens tonight at the Vineyard Drive-in behind the Ice Arena in Oak Bluffs, with Island resident Dawn Porter introducing her new documentary The Way I See It. Buy tickets ahead.
Saturday is your chance to recycle old electronic equipment and scrap metal for the benefit of essential social services for Islanders. The Martha’s Vineyard Community Services Electronics Disposal Day takes place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the MVCS campus in Oak Bluffs.
Island libraries are bringing their books outside on Saturday: The Vineyard Haven Public Library hosts Backyard Book Browsing from 10 a.m. to noon, the West Tisbury Public Library pops up from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the Aquinnah Public Library is hosting a Touchless Browsing on the library porch from noon to 3 p.m.
Photographer Libby Ellis’s new show at The Carnegie in Edgartown, Joyful Participation in a World of Sorrows, is open Tuesday through Saturday this month.
Outdoor shopping continues at the West Tisbury Farmers’ Market, Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon on the Agricultural Society grounds, and at the final summer Oak Bluffs Open Market of 2020, Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon in Washington Park.
