Island Time, Oct. 1-6: Fall Fun

Island Time, Oct. 1-6: Fall Fun

October 1, 2020

This week on Martha’s Vineyard, there’s fun to be had both indoors and out — with more than one chance to help a worthy cause along the way. You can find daily listings of things to do in the Complete Martha’s Vineyard Calendar; here are our top five picks for the week to come.

Walk the Walk

The 30th annual CROP Walk is going virtual this year, so instead of joining one big group you can walk on your own, or with your pandemic bubble, from Oct. 1-18 to raise money for the fight against hunger.

See the Shorts

The Manhattan Short Film Festivalreturns to the Martha’s Vineyard Film Center in Vineyard Haven, kicking off on October 1 with showings throughout the weekend for Island audiences to view and vote on their favorite film out of the nine finalists.

Fall Foliage Mytoi Meander

Discover the beauty of the Japanese-inspired garden through the eyes of an arborist and horticulturist on this guided tour. Advance ticket purchase required. Limited capacity. Meet at Mytoi Gatehouse.  Friday, October 2 at 10:00am to 11:00am.

Eye the Art

Any new show at the cutting-edge Winter Street Gallery in Edgartown is more than worth a look. The latest, titled A Zigzag Over Essence, features recent work by Ellen Berkenblit, Katherine Bradford, Tamara Gonzales, Vera Iliatova and Francis Upritchard.

Shop the Sale

The last Vineyard Independence Partnership pop-up sale at the former Chilmark Chocolates was such a hit that VIP is doing it again Oct. 3 (rain date Oct. 4) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. No chocs, alas, but Chilmark Chocolates T-shirts and mugs will be for sale along with arts and crafts by VIP members, with proceeds to support activities for Islanders with disabilities.
