Island Time, September 24-30: Autumn Joys

September 24, 2020

Another Island autumn is here, with all its delights: Derby fishing, trail hiking, uncrowded beaches and elbow room in town. The Complete Martha’s Vineyard Calendar is still packed with things to do, including these options for the days to come.

Tonight (Thursday, September 24), Seaweed’s restaurant in Oak Bluffs is serving a German menu of Island-raised meats, along with all the trimmings, in honor of Oktoberfest. Seatings are at 5:00 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. and reservations are required.
Allen Whiting’s first Edgartown gallery show is open through Friday at the Old Sculpin Gallery on Dock street. Don’t miss the chance to see his work up close, including rare paintings of Edgartown Great Pond and Wasque.
A new documentary (The Way I See It) about chief official White House photographer Pete Souza’s work with presidents Reagan and Obama, is on the big screen this weekend at the Martha’s Vineyard Film Center in Vineyard Haven.
The Vineyard hosts not one, but two benefit golf tourneys this weekend. The Edgartown Firemen’s Association Scholarship Golf Tournament takes place Saturday at the Edgartown Golf Club. Big Golf Fore Kids, supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod and the Islands, is Sunday at Mink Meadows in Vineyard Haven.
It’s an outdoor artisans’ market when artists, fashion designers and other creators gather Friday at Althea Designs in Vineyard Haven for a parking lot pop-upfrom 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
