Summer 2020 Events on Martha’s Vineyard

Many of the signature summer events on Martha’s Vineyard for 2020 have been canceled, postponed or switched to virtual events during the coronavirus pandemic. Here’s a partial list, which will be updated as event sponsors announce changes.
- April 11: The Flying Horses carousel reopens in Oak Bluffs – Not opening for the 2020 season
- May 1-3: The Martha’s Vineyard Film Center hosts its annual Spectrum Film Festival – Virtual
- May 8-9: The first annual Martha’s Vineyard Oyster Fest makes a splash at the Martha’s Vineyard Museum – Postponed to Oct. 1 to Oct. 3, 2021.
- May 16: Push yourself to the limit during the Martha’s Vineyard Marathon & Half Marathon, which begins and ends at the regional high school – Canceled
- May 21-24: The Martha’s Vineyard Film Center hosts its annual Nature as Inspiration Film Festival – Virtual
- May 25: Memorial Day weekend brings the Oak Bluffs Memorial Road Race, Vineyard Artisans Festival in West Tisbury and the Memorial Day parade in Vineyard Haven – Canceled
- May 30-31: The Fly Rod Catch & Release Striped Bass Tournament takes place in Edgartown – Canceled
- June 4: Opening day for the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks collegiate baseball team, which plays the Newport Gulls at 6:30 p.m. at the Shark Tank on the Edgartown-Vineyard Haven road in Oak Bluffs – Entire season canceled
- June 4: The 2020 Best of the Vineyard party lights up Farm Neck in Oak Bluffs – Canceled
- June 11 & June 13: In Edgartown, the Taste of the Vineyard Gourmet Stroll and Patrons’ Stroll and Auction benefit the Vineyard Trust, which owns and maintains historic properties including the Dr. Daniel Fisher House and the Old Whaling Church – Canceled
- June 14: The Vineyard Gazette’s Car-B-Q Classic is a parade, contest and show of vintage cars on the lawn of the Martha’s Vineyard Museum, formerly a historic mariner’s hospital, in Vineyard Haven – Canceled
- June 20: Celebrate the Solstice in Oak Bluffs during the annual Oak Bluffs Harborfest along the harbor and Midsummer Faerie Festival at Washington Park – Canceled
- June 25-28: The Martha’s Vineyard Film Center hosts its annual FILMUSIC Festival – Virtual
- July-August: The Martha’s Vineyard Author Series – Virtual
- July 4: Starting at the Tisbury School, Murdick’s 5 Mile Run the Chop Challenge raises money for local kids – Canceled
- July 4: The whole Island comes to Edgartown this afternoon for the Independence Day Parade, followed by fireworks after dark – Canceled
- July 8: The Tisbury Street Fair has become an annual Vineyard Haven tradition since the town’s tercentennial in 1971 – Canceled
- July 9: Sail Martha’s Vineyard hosts its 29th annual Seafood Buffet in Vineyard Haven – Virtual
- July 11-12: The Vineyard Cup Regatta brings racing skippers from around the region for a weekend of competition and a harborside party in Vineyard Haven – Canceled
- July 24-26: Rock out during the second annual Beach Road Weekend at Veterans Memorial Park in Vineyard Haven – Canceled
- July 26: The celebrity-studded Possible Dreams Auction raises money for Martha’s Vineyard Community Services – Virtual
- July 30-August 1: The Edgartown Yacht Club‘s Race Weekend includes both ‘Round-the-Buoy Races and the famous ‘Round-the-Sound Race.
- August 3-7: The Martha’s Vineyard Film Center hosts its annual Doc Week Film Festival.
- August 3-6; 10-13; 17-20: The Martha’s Vineyard Comedy Fest celebrates 10 years of laughs at the Strand Theatre in Oak Bluffs – Virtual
- August 7-15: The Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival returns for its 18th year, screening films at the Performing Arts Center in Oak Bluffs – Canceled
- August 13-16; August 22-25: The Built on Stilts Dance Festival brings a wide range of performing artists to Union Chapel in Oak Bluffs – Canceled
- August 19: The Grand Illumination (Illumination Night), an Oak Bluffs tradition since the 19th century, lights up the gingerbread cottages of the Methodist Camp Ground with countless colorful lanterns – Canceled
- August 20-23: The Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Fair, at the Ag Society grounds in West Tisbury, is the quintessential country fair featuring animals, crafts, livestock shows, tractor pulls, music and a midway with rides and games – Virtual
- August 21: Oak Bluffs’ annual Band Concert & Fireworks is sponsored by local firefighters – Canceled
- September 4-13: The Martha’s Vineyard International Film Festival returns to Vineyard Haven.
- September 12: Go fly a kite at the annual Martha’s Vineyard Wind Festival in Oak Bluffs – Canceled
- September 13-October 17: Islanders and visitors alike grab their fishing rods for the Martha’s Vineyard Striped Bass & Bluefish Derby.
- September 19: Tivoli Day is Oak Bluffs’ annual street fair, complete with live music – Canceled
- October 21-25: In Edgartown, the Martha’s Vineyard Food & Wine Festival celebrates fine wines and local foods – Canceled
