“Our Story: 400 Years of Wampanoag History” returns to the Aquinnah Cultural Center (ACC) for the second year. In addition to the original “Captured 1614” which told of the kidnapping and enslavement of Wampanoag people in the early 17th century, the exhibit now includes a new section “The Messenger Runner”. This section shows the scope of Wampanoag territory and describes one of the major ways people communicated news village to village – via runners. It would have been such a runner who carried such news as described in “Captured 1614”.
The Opening Reception is open to the public, who is invited to come and view the exhibit and learn some of this little known yet critically important piece of American history. Please come and enjoy some chowder and refreshments.
