There are so many terrific true crime movies to choose from that curating this series was a challenge. The good news is that every film in the series is one of the best of the best.  Please note, this series is decidedly for adults. Here’s the lineup for October through the first Wednesday of November:

Oct. 4: Goodfellas
The tone-perfect ensemble cast, the period rock soundtrack, the mordant humor, the graphic horror, and Martin
Scorsese’s exuberant direction make this mob story a masterpiece – an appalling masterpiece, but a masterpiece.
(US, 1990)

Oct. 11: Foxcatcher
Chilly and chilling psychological drama about money, class, and wrestling, with an outstanding cast led by Steve Carell. Directed by Bennett Miller (Moneyball, Capote). (US, 2014)

Oct. 18: American Hustle
A vibrant, perfectly cast and very funny account of the ABSCAM scandal that rocked the country in the late 1970s. David O. Russell directs. (US, 2013)

Oct. 25: Dance with a Stranger
A dark, haunting tale about Ruth Ellis, the last woman to be executed in England. Miranda Richardson gives a
knockout performance with strong support by Rupert Everett and Ian Holm. Mike Newell directs. (UK, 1985)

Nov. 1: The Walk
The story of Philippe Petit, his band of cohorts, and his fabled, illegal wirewalk between the 104 storied Twin Towers. The dazzling cinematography is the big payoff. Directed by Robert Zemeckis. (US, 2013)
