As part of a continuing effort to promote discussions about Martha’s Vineyard’s current fisheries and the challenges they face, the Martha’s Vineyard Fishermen’s Preservation Trust is holding an open discussion about the state of the Island’s commercial fishing community. The Martha’s Vineyard Fishermen’s Preservation Trust is currently producing a feature-length documentary on the island’s commercial fishing community. Directed by Chilmark locals Jeremy Mayhew & Lobsterman Wes Brighton, the filmmakers and their team will be present at the meeting. While the film is still in the works, the crew will share a sneak peak of some of their footage and engage in a conversation about fishing on the Vineyard. This film will tell the story of the island’s commercial fishing history, describe the present day issues, and offer possible solutions to ensure our community has a strong and sustainable commercial fishing community now–and for generations to come. This project is funded by the Vineyard Vision Fellowship.
