Catboats were the fishing boats and passenger ferries of yesteryear. Because they were workboats, catboats were built very wide for maximum stability. These boats have very shallow drafts because they were designed to fish the shallow waters of the Cape and Islands. Our boat’s shallow draft allows access to places where larger sailboats cannot go. Catboats were given a simple rig with just one large mainsail that could be easily single-handed. They were also seaworthy and fast. Our American Flag sail is a nod to the charter catboat Cleopatra that sailed these waters in the late 1800’s. While her workboat roots are evident, Tigress was built as recreational cruising boat with very comfortable accommodations above and below decks, including a private enclosed head (restroom).
