Take A Deep Breath: Island Time, June 23
June 27, 2022
June is flying by in a fragrant whirl of roses, strawberries, freshly mown hay and, well, skunks. It’s hard to believe that July is right around the corner — and it’s tempting to take a few days off for a breather before gearing up for all that’s ahead. But if you’re up for keeping the momentum going, the Island has plenty to offer in the week ahead. As always, you can check The Complete Martha’s Vineyard Calendar at any time for updated events and activities.
Sunday evening concerts at Ocean Park return this weekend with everyone’s favorite, the Vineyard Haven Town Band, kicking off the season at 7:30 p.m. Bring a beach chair and enjoy the sights and sounds. For more live music events, see below.
If you’d prefer to be indoors, head to the MV Film Center for this year’s FILMUSIC Festival, happening today, June 23, through Sunday, June 29. The line-up includes documentaries about the 50th anniversary of the New Orleans JazzFest, the world’s greatest drummers, and classical music conductor Marin Alsop. While you’re at the Film Center, check out Connecting the Dots, a new exhibit of drawings from Kate Feiffer. It will be on view through July 17.
A benefit for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Cape Cod and the Islands, Blooming Bids for Kids is a garden party featuring unique planters and garden items. It will be held in the magical environment of the Field Gallery on Friday night, June 24, starting at 5 p.m.
On Wednesday, June 29, at 4 p.m., Vineyard Preservation Trust and Circuit Arts team up for the Generations Picnic at the Grange Hall in West Tisbury. You can enjoy a live circus, movies, stop animation programs and more — all while helping to raise money for Circuit Arts’ programming at the Grange Hall and to make the building more environmentally sustainable.
The longest continually running road race on Martha’s Vineyard, the Chappy Point to Point is a 5-mile road race from the waters of Wasque Point to the ferry at Chappy Point. This year the race, happening on Sunday, June 26 at 8:30 a.m., will help fund the installation of solar power in the Chappaquiddick Community Center. Registration is limited.
