Spend an afternoon in a charming 19th century wooden chapel listening to topnotch vocalists performing opera favorites? And all to support a worthwhile cause. Sound intriguing? Come to Stevens Chapel (Unitarian Universalist Society, 238 Main Street, Vineyard Haven) on Sunday, October 1, at 3:00 p.m. for the latest installment of the “Music in the Chapel” concert series: “An Afternoon at the Opera.”
Well-known Island soprano, Jenny Friedman, a who studied at Berklee School of Music, and David Behnke, a classically trained opera singer, will perform solos and duets by Mozart, Verdi, Donizetti, Bellini, Puccini, Bizet, Gounod, Rossini, and Lehar. They will be accompanied by Griffin McMahon, the Music Director at St. Andrews Church.
The musicians are donating their talent for the purpose of helping to fund the chapel’s sorely needed renovation. Currently under way are projects to update the space to make it more flexible and efficient for the church’s varied programs while preserving the historical character of the space.
Suggested donation: $15. A reception will follow the concert.
