Join Polly Hill’s Arborist, Ian Jochems to learn a radical pruning technique called hat racking, a unique method that rejuvenates old or overgrown holly trees. Just like many property owners, the Polly Hill Arboretum has mature, overgrown hollies. Instead of just cutting them down or snipping back little bits at a time, we can tame these beasts back into beauties with effective cuts. This pruning method goes against everything taught in basic pruning, but for most holly species, it works! Participants will be able to get hands-on practice and have the chance to try out different tools. Please dress for the weather and bring work gloves. PHA will provide all other tools. Park and meet at the Visitor Center. Space is limited; please call to preregister.
