MV Food & Wine Festival 2017

This October Martha’s Vineyard Food & Wine Festival will be back on the Island with an exciting line-up of opportunities to sample, sip and learn more about wine, local food resources, and talented chefs and artisans. Festival goers will meet local chefs, the farmers and fishermen that stock Island larders, as well as vintners, sommeliers and guest chefs from near and far. The Martha’s Vineyard Food & Wine Festival is one culinary celebration no food lover would want to miss. Tickets for events already in place are now available, along with the following ‘menu’ of those scheduled thus far.

Thursday October 19
The fun starts as it does every year with Fresh Off the Farm on Thursday, October 19 beginning at 7 pm. Partnering with the Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Society, this Vineyard Gazette Media Group-hosted event opens the Festival with all things local: Food from Island farms and restaurants and music by Island favorites, Good Night Louise. Friday, October 20
The Festival’s first full day kicks off at noon with Lobsterpalooza! at the Harbor View Hotel’s Lighthouse Grill.  Join Yankee magazine’s Senior Food Editor Amy Traverso for a  tasting of three types of lobster roll, prepared by Lighthouse Grill’s Executive Chef Richard Doucette, each accompanied by its own wine pairing.  View Event/Purchase tickets>

Later in the afternoon at 3 pm, under the tent on the lawn of the Harbor View Hotel, Joseph Carr, Atria’s Sam Decker, and Bar Mezzana’s Heather Lynch compete in the Somm Throw Down,  pairing 12 wines with four small plates crafted by Bar Mezzana’s Colin Lynch. View Event/Purchase tickets >

Got a sweet tooth?  Bring it to Sweet Tooth, also taking place at 3 pm.  Murdick’s fudge expert Mike McCourt will be hosting, while Dan Carbon will pair Port wines with special fudge batches. View Event/Purchase tickets>

As evening falls, the Terrace at The Charlotte Inn hosts a Joseph Carr Dinner during which sommelier/producer Joseph Carr pairs selections from Dylan’s Ghost Winery and Joseph Carr Wines with locally-sourced dinner selections by Terrace chef, Justin Melnick. View Event/ Purchase tickets>

Meanwhile, The Harbor View Hotel’s Lighthouse Grill will be hosting Island Inspired, featuring Chef Jeremy Sewall of Island Creek Oyster Bar, Row 34 and Les Sablons and Chef Richard Doucette, offering a 4-course dinner that celebrates the diversity of New England seafood.  Each course will be paired with Argentinean wines. Wild Game Dinner featuring winemaker Bryan Page of Page Wine Cellars will be on offer at Détente where Chef-Owner Kevin Crowell, Bill Manson of Local Wild Food Challenge and Kirk Avondoglio, Owner of Perona Farms prepare a 4-course dinner, locally sourced through hunting, fishing, and foraging.  Bryan Page pairs the evening’s offerings with selected ‘garage’ wines. Saturday, October 21
Saturday begins with a Walking Tour with Patrick Ahearn at Rosewater Market and Takeaway for an exploration of how Vineyard history and architecture have evolved. Coffee and freshly baked pastries will be offered.  View Event/Purchase tickets >

The ever popular Oh Shucks! event begins at 11 am at the  Edgartown Yacht Club during which a dozen pristine specimens from  Island oyster farms will be paired with select pours. View Event/Purchase tickets>

If oysters aren’t your thing, head over to the Harbor View Hotel in the same time slot for the Woodford Reserve Bourbon Tasting to learn about Woodford Reserve’s 200 detectable flavors.  Woodford Reserve Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey will be accompanied by select tastings. Beginning at 2 pm on the Great Lawn of the Harbor View Hotel, the Grand Tasting is likely to be the most highly anticipated event of the MV Food and Wine Festival.  Featuring foods created by top chefs from Martha’s Vineyard, Boston and wines from the Ruby Wines portfolio, the event spotlights the products of  over 300 winemakers, spirits, breweries, gourmet foods purveyors and  restaurants.
