With Cape traffic and the long wait for summer behind you, dive right into the season on the Martha’s Vineyard with these 5 iconic Island pleasures! Even those of us who call the Island home, welcome the holiday weekend as a time to savor summer’s special experiences. Welcome to the Island and welcome to the summer of 2018!
1. Arriving in OB? Fried clams and raw bar are in order at nearby Coop deVille. Making landfall in Vineyard Haven? Head over to the Net Result. Just follow your nose to a feast of fried seafood!
2. Reacquaint yourself with the sea: Owen Park is just a short stroll on the beach from the SSA Terminal in Vineyard Haven and the Oak Bluffs town beach abuts the Oak Bluffs terminal too. Kick off your sandals, cool your toes and enjoy the sensation of sand on your feet.
3. Ice cream!
4. Stroll down whatever Main Street (or Circuit Ave. in OB) you happen to be on and breathe in the heady aroma of hot pavement and sea air just touched by a soupcon of coconut oil sunscreen. Check out old favorites – restaurants, shops, faces – and take note of newcomers.
5. Pick up a copy of the Vineyard Gazette – a summer (and winter) stand-by for 172 years!), find a convenient bench, porch or outdoor cafe and check out what’s going on for in the days ahead. It’s your call…you’re on v-a-c-a-t-i-o-n!
